NASHVILLE, TN (September 19, 2025) — Abi Carter, winner of American Idol 2024 (Season 22), releases her emotionally charged and bittersweet new single, “2009 Barbie Dreamhouse,” today. Co-written and produced by Michael Edwards, the stirring acoustic guitar picking paints the scene of how childhood trauma can spark a journey toward healing and hope. For young Carter, the Barbie Dreamhouse wasn’t just a toy, it was a symbol of safety, stability, and love. With raw lyrics and soaring vocals, she breathes new life into her dream in this latest track.
Abi shares, “‘2009 Barbie Dreamhouse’ reflects the trauma of growing up in a dysfunctional home while holding onto a vision of safety and comfort. My Barbie Dreamhouse once symbolized that dream, but when it was destroyed by the same chaos breaking apart my real home, the hope felt lost. Years later, I wrote this song on the day my niece was born, realizing my sister had built the loving home we once longed for. The dream of the 2009 Barbie Dreamhouse is still alive.”

The atmosphere feels ominous yet tender, contrasting fractured family shadows with glimpses of resilience and hope. Anchoring the narrative, Abi circles the Barbie Dreamhouse, shifting her perspective – symbolizing how the dream has transformed over time.

With her unparalleled vocal range and virtuosic piano skills, the Coachella Valley native went from busking on the streets as a teen to winning the nation’s vote in what was rumored to be a landslide. Her 2024 debut album, ghosts in the backyard, introduced her as a confident, story-driven songwriter whose music balances cinematic pop drama with indie-folk intimacy. Praised by stars like Billie Eilish and Katy Perry, Abi has already headlined Acrisure Arena to thousands and earned comparisons to artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Lizzy McAlpine, and Renee Rapp.
Abi kicks off her “No Amount of Dark” Tour on October 13, taking her music across the Southwest, Midwest, and Northeast in a 15-stop journey.
