GRAVEL-VOICED COUNTRY-ROCK ARTIST
DANNY WORSNOP
RELEASES NEW SINGLE
“I TRIED TO WRITE A SAD SONG”
TODAY, MAY 1

ARRIVES WITH STARK BLACK-AND-WHITE
MUSIC VIDEO

NASHVILLE, TN (May 1, 2026) Blending the intensity of rock with the storytelling backbone of country, Danny Worsnop delivers a vocal style that is both commanding and unfiltered. As a gravel-voiced country-rock artist, he brings a live-wire delivery and aggressive edge that cuts through the noise with ease. That energy carries into his new single, “I Tried To Write A Sad Song,” out today, further cementing a sound that feels grounded, rugged, and impossible to ignore.

“I must have written this song a hundred different ways, trying each time to capture what it felt like to finally, truly move on,” Worsnop shares about the track. “I kept searching for some lingering emotion to hold onto, but instead it turned into a quiet realization that there wasn’t any sadness left — and barely even a memory. Ironically, that was the hardest part. The idea that something, or someone, that once meant everything to you can fade into something distant, almost unrecognizable. That kind of absence has its own weight. I guess, in the end, that’s where I found my sad song.”

Alongside the single release, Worsnop delivers a striking black-and-white music video that explores emotional distance and denial, reflecting a fractured relationship dynamic. The stark, minimal aesthetic heightens the sense of detachment, underscoring the song’s themes of disconnection and unresolved emotion.

As the frontman of Asking Alexandria, Worsnop became one of modern rock’s most recognizable voices, balancing intensity with melody across years of global touring. But over time, that pace came with reflection. “I learned my flaws… and what it feels like to be stuck somewhere I didn’t want to be,” he admits. That realization eventually led him to step away in search of something more authentic.

His first two solo records, The Long Road Home (2017) and Shades of Blue (2019), feel like part of that search — records where he was still testing the edges of his voice and identity. Over time, that search settled into something clearer, and 2026 now marks a defining chapter for Worsnop as he fully leans into a country and roots-driven sound shaped by storytelling, blues, and classic rock influences

That direction first began to take shape with his previous single “Somewhere in the Middle,” released on March 20, which offered an early glimpse into this more grounded and reflective creative era. Now firmly settled into this style, Worsnop has found a space that feels fully his own, with his gravel-voiced delivery emerging as a defining thread across his current work, and with that clarity comes momentum as he prepares to release a prolific wave of music throughout 2026, his most expansive and fully realized body of work to date.

“I’m just the stenographer,” he says of his writing process. “An idea shows up, and I go figure it out.” That philosophy carries through his work — songs built on honesty, emotion, and instinct rather than calculation. “Here, I can be sad about being sad… vulnerable… exactly what I’m feeling, in the exact way that I’m feeling it.”

Faith has also become a grounding force in that evolution, shaping both his perspective and his writing. His music reflects lived experience — loss, love, resilience, and hope — without performance or pretense.

Beyond music, Worsnop also works in photography and writing, often shooting in black and white to strip things back to their most unfiltered form. A creative approach that mirrors his current sound.

At its core, this season is about alignment, not reinvention. After years of change and upheaval, Worsnop has arrived at something rare: a place where who he is and what he makes finally move in the same direction. “This is me… for maybe the first time ever,” he says.
